God judges based upon truth

  • Psalm 96:13, “Before the LORD: for he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth: he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth” (Romans 2:2).

Saints should:

  • Worship God in truth: John 4:24, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” (Psalm 145:18)

  • Esteem truth, as inestimable: Proverbs 23:23, “Buy the truth, and sell it not….”
  • Rejoice in truth: 1 Corinthians 13:6, “Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth”
  • Speak, to one another in truth: Zechariah 8:16, “These are the things that you shall do: Speak the truth to one another; render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace” (Ephesians 4:25).
  • Meditate upon truth: Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
  • Write truth upon the tables of the heart: Proverbs 3:3, “Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart.”

  • Approve themselves by truth: 2 Corinthians 4:2, “But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God’s word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.”

Magistrates should be men of truth: Exodus 18:21, “Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness”;

Kings are preserved by truth: Proverbs 20:28, “Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy”;

They who speak truth:

  • Show forth righteousness: Proverbs 12:17, “Whoever speaks the truth gives honest evidence,

but a false witness utters deceit.”;

The wicked:

  • Destitute of truth: Hosea 4:1, “Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land”;
  • Speak not truth: Jeremiah 9:5, “Everyone deceives his neighbor, and no one speaks the truth; they have taught their tongue to speak lies; they weary themselves committing iniquity.”
  • Uphold not truth: Isaiah 59:14-15, “Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands far away; for truth has stumbled in the public squares, and uprightness cannot enter.  15 Truth is lacking, and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey.  The Lord saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice.”;
  • Plead not for truth: Isaiah 59:4, “None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity”;
  • Are not valiant for truth: Jeremiah 9:3, “They bend their tongue like a bow; falsehood and not truth has grown strong[a] in the land; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not know me, declares the Lord.”

The Gospel as truth:

  • Came by Christ: John 1:17, “For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ”;
  • Christ bear witness to: John 18:37, “Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”;
  • Is in Christ: Romans 9:1, “I am speaking the truth in Christ—I am not lying; my conscience bears me witness in the Holy Spirit”; (1 Timothy 2:7);
  • Is according to godliness: Titus 1:1, “Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness”;
  • Is sanctifying: John 17:17, “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth”; (John 17:19);
  • Is purifying: 1 Peter 1:22, “Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart”;
  • Is part of Christian armor: Ephesians 6:14, “Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness);
  • Revealed abundantly to saints: Jeremiah 33:6, “Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth”;
  • Abides continually with saints: 2 John 2, “For the truth’s sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us forever”;
  • Should be acknowledged: 2 Timothy 2:25, “correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth”;
  • Should be believed: 2 Thessalonians 2:12-13, “in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.  13 But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.”; (1 Timothy 4:3);
  • Should be obeyed: Romans 2:8, “but for those who are self-seeking[a] and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury.”; (Galatians 3:1);
  • Should be loved: 2 Thessalonians 2:10, “and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.”;
  • Should be manifested: 2 Corinthians 4:2, “But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice[a] cunning or to tamper with God’s word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.”;
  • Should be rightly divided: 2 Timothy 2:15, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”;
  • The wicked turn away from it: 2 Timothy 4:4, “And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables”;
  • The wicked resist it: 2 Timothy 3:8, “Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding the faith.”;
  • The wicked destitute of it: 1 Timothy 6:5, “and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain.”;
  • The church is the pillar and ground of it: 1 Timothy 3:15, “if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth.”;
  • The devil is devoid of it: John 8:44, “You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
